Poverty makes me sad...

Not just MY poverty, but poverty in general. How is it that people can be wealthy and live in multi-million dollar homes with servants, when they know other people can't eat, or worse, even feed their kids? How is it that the 92% of us who don't live in multi-million dollar homes with servants haven't yet lynched the remaining 8%?

The bit about health insurance is scary too. I have been accused of being far to the left of Karl Marx, but even so, when did workers, people, kids, become so fungible that we were willing to chance needing to discard them when they got sick?

Workers of the world unite!!

Remember Karl Marx? It's about time a lot more people started remembering him.

These new overtime rules basically mean that if you earn minimum wage you don't get overtime. They also provide maximum incentive to corporations to provide low-paying, part-time jobs with no benefits. They also provide an ADDITIONAL out, by allowing companies through creative job-definition to avoid paying overtime to otherwise eligible people.

We have a lot of problems in this country. The ones that scare me the most are disparate incomes, dynastic perpetuation of wealth, lack of adequate health care for many people, and a constant decline in the central importance of family. These new overtime rules perpetuate and exacerbate all of these problems, and ensure that parents have to spend even less time with their gun-toting, drug using, soon to be pregnant kids, as well as having even less money to devote to their welfare.

Just wait until I see a good article on preventative detention...

that reminds me...

The whole "rewards for being nice" thing is very juvenile in my opinion. And a bribe. That reminds me of a civil procedure professor I once cursed out. She used to let us leave class because we were "too tired," and brought her dog and cookies in. She also gave us an exam that had 4.7 hours of planned time (if you added up all the suggested time allocation) that had to be done in 3 hours. Just ranting.

Freedom of Speech, just watch what you say

I have a sister who gets arrested for fun. In fact, she's a "street medic," who helps people who have been teargassed by our benevolent occupiers. It may not be such a good idea for people to do that sort of thing these days...

This one speaks for itself...

The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and I fall into the latter.

Don't ever let anyone tell you that the US won the Revolutionary war

So, I'm checking the markets, and this bit is on the top of the newslist. Kerry will win the election, they predict, because he's more closely related to British royalty than Bush. While I'm convinced that 4 more years of Bush will directly lead to the downfall of this country, I can't say I'm happy to consider aristocracy a basis for presidency. Welcome to the land of the indifferent, and the home of the new oligarchy.

I'm not white I'm...

This makes my usual "I'm not white, I'm semitic" line a potential political slogan. Cool. I'm a trendsetter.

If we don't stop this trend, I'm out of business...

So like, yeah, officer... Yesterday I was going 98 mph, and this morning I may have spat on the sidewalk...

Spawn of malcontent

I wanted to comment on the malcontent's blog, and look, I got suckered into my own.
